Joe Root scales new high in ICC Test rankings

Harry Brook, who scored a triple-century in Multan, is now joint-second in the batters' rankings

England batter Joe Root attained his career-best rating points in the ICC Test rankings for batters and currently sits top of the list. Root now has 932 rating points, which is the highest for an England batter after Len Hutton (945), Jack Hobbs (942) and Peter May (941). The former England captain achieved this feat after slamming his career-best score of 262 against Pakistan in the first Test in Multan. His previous highest rating points of 923 came after he slammed twin tons in the Lord's Test against Sri Lanka last month.

During his career-best score in Multan, he put on a record 454-run stand with Harry Brook, who slammed a triple century as England went on to win the Test by an innings and 47 runs. That has seen Brook climb to second in the ICC Test rankings for batters, alongside New Zealand's Kane Williamson, who currently has 829 rating points. Ben Duckett moved up five places to 14th, while his opening partner Zak Crawley has jumped two places and is currently in 24th position.

In the ICC T20I rankings, West Indies opener Brandon King has moved into the top 10, after smashing 66 off just 33 deliveries in the first match against Sri Lanka in Dambulla. Pathum Nissanka, who also slammed a fifty in the second game moved up three places to 12th.

There was further good news for Sri Lanka as spinner Maheesh Theekshana moved to fifth in the bowler's rankings. West Indies tweaker Gudakesh Motie moved into the top two. Meanwhile, India leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi is back in the top 10 as he moved up four places to eighth, after picking up three wickets in the final T20I against Bangladesh in Hyderabad.
