BCCI secretary Jay Shah took to Twitter to announce that the new National Cricket Academy (NCA) will be opened shortly in Bengaluru with world-class facilities. Bengaluru already houses an NCA, which is adjacent to the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. Shah did not mention where in Bengaluru the new NCA is being erected.
"Very excited to announce that the @BCCI’s new National Cricket Academy (NCA) is almost complete and will be opening shortly in Bengaluru. The new NCA will feature three world-class playing grounds, 45 practice pitches, indoor cricket pitches, Olympic-size swimming pool and state-of-the-art training, recovery and sports science facilities," Shah said on Twitter.
"This initiative will help our nation’s current and future cricketers develop their skills in the best possible environment!"
The current NCA is deemed smaller in size. The BCCI acquired land near the airport over 10 years ago but did not make much progress in the initial stages. It was reportedly a dream project for former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly, but it never came to fruition during his tenure.
