Life is the biggest lesson, they say, and Yashasvi Jaiswal seems to be one of the biggest ambassadors of this saying. The 22-year-old, on only his maiden Test tour of Australia, smashed one of the highest scores by an Indian batter at a Perth ground when he ended his 297-ball-167 run knock.
After getting out on a duck in the first innings, how was he able to stage a fightback? Jaiswal said that he takes inspiration from his humble beginnings and early struggles when, as an 11-year-old, he moved from a small town in Uttar Pradesh, moved to Mumbai to pursue his dreams of playing the game he loves at the highest level.
Remembering the struggle when he even sold Paanipuri and slept in Maidan’s tents with his father, Jaiswal said, “It's something that always gives me confidence that I can come out of any situation. I always fight, I always look to fight, I want to be in the battle, I want to enjoy the battle and I want to win the battle.”
“I am really blessed that I have this life that can give me a lot of confidence, learning about myself, how I can believe in myself, and how I can go through different emotions, different situations in my life,” he added on an Australian TV show with Jamie Howard.
Thanking God for all that he has achieved in his career thus far, the southpaw said, "I am doing what I love, so I am just happy at the moment. I want to enjoy this with every ball."
Explaining his celebration after the century where he blew kisses to the crowd at the Optus Stadium, Jaiswal said, “I give kisses to all my loved ones, all my fans who have supported me. I just wanted to give them my love with the kisses.”
Jaiswal played an important role in India’s win at Perth. He would be one of the batters Australia will be preparing hard for the second Test at the Adelaide Oval, starting December 6.
