Mumbai all-rounder Tanush Kotian starred against Rest of India (RoI) as he brought up his second first-class century, achieving this feat at the Ekana Stadium, Lucknow, in the ongoing Irani Cup on October 5 (Saturday). He got to his landmark in just 135 deliveries. Moreover, he slammed 64 in the first innings, coming in at eight, putting on 183 runs for the seventh wicket with Sarfaraz Khan, who scored an unbeaten double hundred, paving the way for Mumbai to put on 537.
His only other century in the format came in the Ranji Trophy earlier this year against Baroda in Mumbai. On that occasion, Kotian scored an unbeaten 120 off just 129 deliveries, coming in at 10, and put on 232 for the final wicket with Tushar Deshpande (123).
Kotian also did the job with the ball, finishing with 3/101 in his 27 overs. In the second innings, the 25-year-old came in when his side was reduced to 125/6, and RoI would have certainly fancied their chances. However, Kotian showed excellent concentration, putting up over 100 with Mohit Avasthi to bat RoI out of the competition.
Kotian has been in terrific form of late. He was also the player of the series in the Ranji Trophy last season, scoring over 500 runs and taking 29 wickets. His efforts helped Mumbai to their 42nd title, with Kotian taking seven wickets in the final.
With his all-round show, Kotian took Mumbai to their first-ever Irani Cup title since 1997-98, when they won the one-off match under Sanjay Manjrekar's captaincy.
