WATCH: Devdutt Padikkal's diving catch to dismiss Prithvi Shaw

Padikkal, who was standing at second slip, flew to his right and took a stunning catch on day one of the Irani Cup 2024

Prithvi Shaw’s return to Indian domestic cricket wasn’t a fruitful one as Devdutt Padikkal took a blinder at second slip to send him back to the pavilion at the score of 4 on day one of the Irani Cup 2024 in Lucknow on October 1 (Tuesday).

The right-handed opener from Mumbai, who wasn’t picked in any of the four teams in the Duleep Trophy and was instead playing for Northamptonshire in England, got off the mark with a thick outside edge but couldn’t hang around for too long.

The Rest of India seamer, Mukesh Kumar, went full and wide, and Shaw went for the big drive, only to edge it towards the slip cordon. Padikkal, who was standing at second slip, flew to his right and took the catch with both hands.

Sarfaraz Khan (Mumbai), Yash Dayal (Rest of India) and Dhruv Jurel (Rest of India), who were both part of India’s squad for the ongoing second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur, were released to feature in the Irani Cup encounter.
