IPL Auction set to take place in Dubai on December 19: Reports

Coca-Cola Arena is set to be the venue for the first IPL auction away from home

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have confirmed that the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) Auction for the 2024 edition will take place in Dubai. It will be the first time that an IPL Auction will take place away from India.

Last year, the auction was scheduled to be hosted in Istanbul, Turkey, before a late move to be hosted in Kochi, Kerala. Not just that, the board has also extended the deadline for the list of released players from November 15 to November 26. Cricbuzz reported that the deadline has been extended due to the 2023 ODI World Cup taking place in the country.

According to the same reports, the salary cap for the ten teams will be capped at INR 100 crore. With the Mega Auction set to take place next year, this will be the last year for all players contracted by the teams in a three-year period.

Coca-Cola Arena, a multi-purpose situated in the City Walk Area, has been locked in as the venue for the event, with a capacity of 17,000 people. Earlier in the day, Mumbai Indians (MI) became the first team to act in the trade window, getting Romario Shepherd from Lucknow Super Giants, with reports suggesting that it was done at his base price of INR 50 lakh.
