IPL: 5 players who have played for both Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI)

With Mitchell Santner and Deepak Chahar now playing for Mumbai Indians, we look at other players who have played for both teams

There aren’t too many rivalries hyped as much as the El Clasico between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mumbai Indians (MI). But did you know that several players have played for both teams?

Here’s the list of some famous names to have played for CSK and MI:

Ambati Rayudu

Having started his career with Mumbai Indians, Ambati Rayudu is one of the high-profile names to have played for both MI and CSK. Before his controversial move to CSK, he had already proven to be a legend for MI, with three titles.

While people expected his form to taper down, Rayudu with CSK became a different beast altogether, with three titles for MS Dhoni’s team, finishing his career with six IPL titles, joint-most in history.

Dwayne Bravo

Not many people will remember Dwayne Bravo’s stint with MI, but he was one of the OGs for the Mumbai-based franchise. Bravo played three seasons for MI (2007/08, 2009, and 2010), during which he took 26 wickets and scored 457 runs with the bat.

Bravo was an instant lucky charm for CSK, with the Men in Yellow winning their second IPL in 2011. From thereon, the all-rounder represented 116 games and won four titles with CSK, making himself a ‘cult hero’.

Dwayne Smith

Dwayne Smith has played four IPL franchises, and two out of them are CSK and MI. Playing for MI, first, he smashed 14 off three balls against CSK’s Ben Hilfenhaus and later joined the Men in Yellow.

While he never won the trophy with CSK, he formed a fruitful partnership with Brendon McCullum at the top of the order, giving the Yellow Army some impactful memories.

Michael Hussey

Unlike Smith, Michael Hussey made the move from CSK to MI in quite a rare direction. While an icon for CSK, Hussey barely made many appearances for MI, with just nine games, averaging 23.22 with the bat.

However, he was quite a legend for CSK, scoring 1768 runs, averaging 42.1, and scoring a ton in CSK’s first game of the IPL against Punjab Kings (back then Kings XI Punjab). The southpaw is currently CSK’s batting coach.

Harbhajan Singh

Yet another player moving winds from MI to CSK.

At one point, Harbhajan Singh was the crown jewel of the MI bowling unit. But the emergence of Jasprit Bumrah and MI's shifting direction towards young players forced Harbhajan out of the setup. The off-spinner played an integral role in CSK's winning the 2018 IPL.

More famously, if not for Harbhajan, we wouldn’t have this famous quote: “You know I have a lot of cars and bikes in my house. I don't ride all at once.”
