Rain plays spoilsport as first India-South Africa T20I abandoned without toss

Persistent rain meant that the match got abandoned without even the toss taking place

The first Twenty20 international between South Africa and India was abandoned without a ball being bowled at Kingsmead in Durban on Sunday (December 10th). Steady rain fell throughout the afternoon before the umpires decided almost two hours after the scheduled start that no play would be possible.

The second match is scheduled for Gqeberha, formerly known as Port Elizabeth, on Tuesday. However, that contest could be rain-affected too, for thunderstorms are expected in the region on the 12th of December.

India will be hoping for the weather to stay clear going forward, as another washout on Tuesday (December 12) will leave them with just four T20Is in lead-up to the T20 World Cup in June.

India's tour of South Africa consists of three T20 internationals, three one-day internationals and two Test matches.
