The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has scrapped the three-day intra-squad game between India’s senior team and India A at the WACA before the start of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, ESPNcricinfo reported on November 1 (Friday).
Rohit Sharma and his men were set to start their tour of Australia with a red-ball game against India A, who are currently involved in a two-match series against Australia A from November 15 to 17.
However, the team management has now decided to have training sessions on those three days, “which will include net sessions and centre wicket match simulation scenarios at the WACA”, the portal reported.
India, who have won their last two series Down Under, started the 2020-21 tour with a three-day game against Australia A and the 2018-19 tour with a four-day game against Cricket Australia XI. This intra-squad match was likely to be played behind closed doors, but it doesn’t matter now.
The India Test squad will leave for Australia next week after the end of the third Test against New Zealand in Mumbai. The blockbuster five-match series will get underway on November 22 in Perth. The last four Tests will be played in Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney respectively.
