India lose 7/30 against Pakistan in New York

The Men in Blue registered their fourth-lowest total in the T20 World Cup

India suffered a terrible batting collapse in Match 19 of the 2024 T20 World Cup against their arch-rivals Pakistan on June 9 (Sunday).

Rohit Sharma and Co. lost their last seven wickets for just 30 runs at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.

Asked to bat on a spicy New York surface, the Men in Blue lost their senior openers Rohit Sharma (13) and Virat Kohli (4) inside three overs. However, Rishabh Pant (31-ball 42) and Axar Patel (18-ball 20) put on 39 runs for the third wicket.

Just when the partnership was blooming, Axar fell to Naseem Shah but Suryakumar Yadav started well and India were 89/3 at one stage. But that’s when all hell broke loose. India started losing wickets at regular intervals and were eventually bowled out for 119 in 19 overs.

The Mumbaikar fell to Haris Rauf in the 12th over before Shivam Dube chipped one straight back to Naseem. Mohammad Amir too joined the party, dismissing Pant and Ravindra Jadeja off consecutive deliveries in the 15th over.

Hardik Pandya (7 off 12) and Arshdeep Singh (9 off 13) did hang around for a while but never looked comfortable in the middle. The tailenders didn’t do much either as they were bundled out with six deliveries still to spare.

This is only the third instance India have been bowled out in the T20 World Cup. They registered their fourth-lowest total in this tournament, and second lowest while batting first. It also was India's lowest score against their arch-rivals Pakistan.
