I was a failure in the T20 World Cup but that's in the past: Liton Das

The wicketkeeper-batter slammed 60 off 44 deliveries in the first T20I against Afghanistan and helped Bangladesh win the game by 61 runs

Liton Das had a horrible 2021 T20 World Cup but the wicketkeeper-batter from Bangladesh is slowly starting to understand how to operate in the shortest format of the game. In the showpiece event, the 27-year-old could only manage 133 runs in eight innings at an average of 16.62 and a strike rate of 94.32.

Liton, who has been doing well in the other two formats, was left out of the squad for the T20I series against Pakistan but made a superb return against Afghanistan in the first T20I. The right-hander slammed 60 off 44 deliveries and helped Bangladesh win the game by 61 runs.

The team management said Liton was given a break against Pakistan but the right-handed batter feels he was actually dropped. "It was not a break, I was dropped. Have I played a lot of cricket that I wanted a break and I was playing in the National League after coming from the World Cup so I am not sure how you can say it is a break," Liton was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

"Someday you wouldn't get a score and someday you would get a score. I was a failure in the T20 World Cup but that's in the past. I got an opportunity in today's match and I tried to play well. It's a different ball game. There is some rush in the T20 game. You will get enough time in ODI cricket and you will get more than enough time in Test cricket. Format is different. If you are in good touch then it's very easier to score in any format.

"Since I'm a top-order batsman I get enough time in Tests and ODIs. If you can change your mindset, I think 120 balls is enough time. Now I am beginning to understand this, I may not have understood it earlier. I am a human being and you will learn more as much as you play."

Liton also said that he doesn’t mind batting anywhere in the order. "I never want to make any argument with my batting position because my first priority is to contribute for the team in any way.

“If the team management decides that I should open the innings then I am up for it and if they feel that I should bat at seven I am ready for it too since the team management knows well in which position I'm fit to bat."
