Here’s what the points table looks like:
Standout performers
Bajwa joins elite list
Montreal Tigers opener Dilpreet Bajwa slammed the first hundred in this edition of the Global T20. He scored an unbeaten 100 off just 55 deliveries against Brampton Wolves to become the first-ever associate player to score a century in the tournament and fourth overall after Sherfane Rutherford (2018), Chris Gayle (2019) and Heinrich Klaassen (2019). He went from 50 to 100 in just 11 balls.
He is currently the leading run-getter in the tournament, with 174 runs in three innings at a strike rate of 158.18.
Stoinis continues good run
Australia all-rounder Marcus Stoinis had a superb T20 World Cup, where he scored over 150 runs and also picked up 11 wickets. He had a decent Major League Cricket (MLC) as well, but has seemed at home in Canada, playing a key role with both bat and ball. His best game came against Toronto Nationals, where he slammed 57 off 37 and finished with 3/19 with the ball. He has scored 93 runs at a strike rate of 141 and his four wickets have come at an economy rate of 5.25.
Omarzai shines with the ball
Azmatullah Omarzai may have had an under-par T20 World Cup, but he bowled a superb spell against Brampton Wolves on July 30. He finished with 4/21 and along with Kaleem Sana, he more or less bowled the opposition out of the contest. The duo combined to finish with 6/27 in seven overs to help Montreal Tigers to a comfortable 42-run victory.
Consistent Junaid
UAE’s Junaid Siddique is yet to have a poor game in the tournament. He already has 10 wickets to his name in four matches, but his best was in his side Toronto Nationals’ first game against Vancouver Knights, where he picked up four wickets for just 25 and followed that with three-for against Brampton Wolves – winning the Player of the Match award in both those games. Some of his big scalps include Reeza Hendricks and Stoinis.
Evergreen Wiese
David Wiese may have played his last international match for Namibia, but he continues to be a match-winner in T20 cricket. He has played a huge role in getting Mississauga to second spot in the table, having put in Player of the Match performances in the last two games. Against Toronto, he slammed an unbeaten 38 off 17 to take his side to a competitive total and finished with 1/28 to set up a close win. He followed that up with an unbeaten 27 (19) and 2/17 against Jaguars to further prove that he’s still got it.
How are some of the big guns doing?
David Warner
Former Australia batter David Warner has had a forgettable tournament thus far, having managed just 46 runs at 11.50 in four innings and a strike rate of 121.05. He has failed to get in double figures twice already and has not scored beyond 25 for Brampton yet.
Shakib Al Hasan
One of the best all-rounders in the world, Shakib Al Hasan, has had a tough time in Canada so far. He has scored just 30 runs at 7.5 at a strike rate of 93.75. He has redeemed himself to a certain extent with the ball, having picked up six wickets at an economy rate of under six.
Usman Khawaja
Vancouver Knights skipper Usman Khawaja has registered scores of 3, 2, 0, and 17 in his four innings so far. His runs have come at an average of 5.50 and he has scored at a strike rate of 66.66. As a result, the Knights are yet to win a match in the competition and remain cemented to the bottom of the table.
Roston Chase
West Indies all-rounder Roston Chase has managed just a solitary wicket from his six overs in the tournament (Econ 8.83) and has not induced any confidence with the bat as well, with scores of 17 and 8 so far. Toronto Nationals may have won two of their four games, but Chase has played very little part.
Chris Lynn
One of the most attacking batters in the world, Chris Lynn, has scored just 23 runs in three innings in the tournament for Montreal so far. In fact, he is in the middle of a poor run, having not scored even 20 in his last eight innings. Can he turn things around as we move to the business end of the tournament?
