Gujarat Titans (GT) are expected to retain Shubman Gill, Rashid Khan, Sai Sudharsan, Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan, according to ESPNCricinfo. Retaining five players will leave GT with one right-to-match (RTM) card in case they want to draft a player back into their squad in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) mega-auction.
The amount for every player isn’t known yet, but retaining these five will deduct a minimum of INR 51 crore from the allocated budget of INR 120 crore per team, given they are retaining two uncapped players for whom the minimum signing amount is INR 4 crore.
GT can also pay them more, in which case the higher amount will be deducted from their purse. The maximum amount to retain five players can go up to INR 75 crore.
Four of these players – Gill, Rashid, Tewatia and Sudharsan – have been with the side since 2022, when they won the trophy in the franchise’s maiden year in the competition. Shahrukh joined GT in 2024.
Gill led the team in 2024 after Hardik Pandya moved to Mumbai Indians. GT finished eighth on the points table under Gill. However, he is one of their star players, having scored 890 runs in the 2023 season when GT finished runner-up.
Rashid, Sai Sudharsan and Rahul Tewatia have been quite impactful in GT’s brief journey. Sudharsan has scored over 1,000 runs for GT in these three years, including 527 runs in the 2024 season. Tewatia, meanwhile, has established a niche as a finisher, having clinched quite a few tensed run chases for the team.
All franchises must confirm the list of their retained players by October 31. However, the dates for the mega-auction have yet to be decided.
