Sam Konstas’ battle with Jasprit Bumrah was proper cinema, with the Australian opener taking the Indian spearhead in the most disdain of fashions during the fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. After missing a couple of attempted reverse laps, the 19-year-old connected a few against Bumrah to take 14 runs off the over, becoming the first batter to hit a six off Bumrah’s bowling in Tests since 2021.
Kontas didn’t stop there, taking away 35 runs off Bumrah’s bowling in 33 deliveries to shake up the series. But Bumrah reckoned that he could have got the young opener at least six or seven times during their duel.
“Initially, I felt I could have got him out 6-7 times in the first two overs, but that’s how cricket goes; some days it pays off, it looks good, some days if it doesn’t, you might be criticising the same person,” Bumrah opened up, talking to Channel 7.
“I have experienced heaps of it. I have played T20 cricket a lot, more than 12 years of T20 cricket. Interesting batsman [Konstas] as well and I always felt I was in the game, I never felt I am far away from a wicket,” said Bumrah.
As it turned out, Ravindra Jadeja had the last laugh against Konstas, trapping him right in front of the stumps after he got to 60 off 65.
