Head to Head

West Indies 4 - 3 Afghanistan

Venue details

The Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium in Gros Islet, St Lucia, will be hosting its third match of the 2024 T20 World Cup. This is the only venue where batters have managed to score runs at a good pace. We have already witnessed three 180-plus totals across four innings and the batters here have operated at a strike rate of close to 150, easily the best among all venues.

The fast bowlers have picked up 14 wickets at an average of 26.5 and an economy rate of 9, while the spinners have claimed 11 wickets @ 27.6 and an economy of 8.7. This is one venue where you can trust batters to come good.

Weather conditions

There’s a 30 percent chance of rain in St Lucia during the game time. Meanwhile, the humidity is going to be around 80 percent.

Players to watch out for

Rahmanullah Gurbaz - The wicketkeeper-batter from Afghanistan is currently the leading run-getter in the competition, having slammed 167 runs in three innings @ 55.67 and a strike rate of 154.63. He has done well against the West Indies in the past, averaging 31.33. With him also being a wicketkeeper, Gurbaz is a safe bet when it comes to fantasy cricket.

Andre Russell - The ace all-rounder is someone who is always in the game. In the ongoing World Cup, Russell has hit 59 runs in three innings at a strike rate of 178.78. He has only been dismissed once. Russell has also claimed four wickets at an average of 13.25. The big man from the West Indies is in great form and is a must in your XI.

Alzarri Joseph - The right-arm pacer is West Indies’ leading wicket-taker in the ongoing showpiece event. He has taken eight wickets in three innings @ 7.37. In the previous match against New Zealand, Joseph took a four-wicket haul. Not once in this event, he has taken less than two wickets in a game.

Key battles

Fazalhaq Farooqi vs West Indies’s top-order

The left-arm seamer has been a menace with the new ball in this World Cup. Farooqi has taken seven wickets at an average of 4.9 and an economy of 4.3 in the powerplay. The West Indies’ top three batters - Brandon King, Johnson Charles and Nicholas Pooran - are all averaging close to 20 in the competition and could have a tough time against Farooqi.
