England’s results in the ODI format have been in freefall for a while now, and the Three Lions have further sunk in the 50-over format following a 0-3 series whitewash at the hands of India.
That’s right, since the start of the 2023 ODI World Cup, England have now lost 16 ODIs. That’s the most among ANY SIDE in the world. Bangladesh are the only other team to have lost 15 ODIs during this timeframe. Shockingly, England’s ODI record since the start of the 2023 World Cup reads P23 W7 L16.
Most defeats in ODIs since the start of the 2023 ODI World Cup
16 in 23 games - England
15 in 21 games - Bangladesh
13 in 24 games - South Africa
12 in 21 games - Netherlands
Since the start of the 2023 ODI World Cup, Jos Buttler has captained England 15 times, and the Three Lions have lost 11 of those games. The only wins have come against Bangladesh, Netherlands, Pakistan (World Cup dead rubber) and West Indies (England went on to lose the series).
Overall, England have now lost each of the last four ODI bilateral series they’ve played - India away, Australia at home and West Indies away (twice).
It might very well prove to be curtains for Buttler as skipper should the Three Lions not make it to the final of the Champions Trophy.
