The International Cricket Council (ICC) have announced the full set of venues for the upcoming ICC T20 World Cup in 2024, with seven venues in the West Indies hosting the mega event alongside three USA venues.
Antigua & Barbuda, Barbados, Dominica, Guyana, Saint Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Trinidad & Tobago have been named to host the matches in the Caribbean, whereas Dallas, Florida, and New York will play host to some matches in the 20-team tournament.
"We're delighted to announce the seven Caribbean venues that will host the biggest ICC Men's T20 World Cup ever staged, with 20 teams competing for the trophy. They're all popular venues with players and fans alike that will provide a wonderful backdrop to the event,” ICC chief executive Geoff Allardice said in a statement.
"This will be the third ICC senior men's event hosted by the West Indies, and the matches will again give cricket fans the unique experience of enjoying cricket in the Caribbean. I'd like to thank Cricket West Indies and the seven host governments for their continued commitment and support of our sport."
The upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup is going to be a 20-team event for the first time, moving away from the current two-round matches. The two host countries - the West Indies and the USA have secured automatic qualification along with Australia, England, India, Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, and Sri Lanka by virtue of being the top eight teams of the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Bangladesh and Afghanistan have also earned their qualification based on their T20I rankings at the end of the last T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, Ireland, Scotland, and Papua New Guinea booked their spots through the regional Qualifiers, but with the American Qualifier, Asia Qualifier, and Africa Qualifier still pending, the remaining five teams are yet to be confirmed.
