Durham bring in Andrew Tye for remainder of Vitality Blast season

The pacer replaces Ashton Turner, who injured his shoulder last week

Durham have confirmed the signing of Western Australia and Perth Scorchers pacer Andrew Tye, whom they have roped in for the remainder of the Vitality Blast season as a replacement for Ashton Turner, who captained the side in its first two games of the season. Turner started the season well, posting 32 (18) against Leicestershire, but was forced to retire hurt against Northamptonshire after sustaining a shoulder injury. The right-hander had raced off to 21* off 7 when he suffered the injury.

Turner has not flown back home to Australia, and will continue rehabbing at the club, but his place in the Durham squad will now be taken by compatriot Tye, who has had a fine last 12 months in the shortest format. Tye will come straight into the squad for Durham’s Vitality Blast fixture at home to Worcestershire Rapids on Wednesday (June 1).

Speaking of the pacer’s signing, Marcus North, Director of Cricket said: “We are pleased to welcome to AJ to Durham for the Vitality Blast, there are still lots of games to play and having lost Ashton Turner to injury were keen to act quickly on a replacement.

“He has an impressive T20 record both at international level and domestically and we are looking forward to getting straight into action tonight.”

Durham have endured a tough start to their 2022 Vitality Blast campaign, having lost two of their first three matches.
