Duleep Trophy: Suryakumar Yadav fails in his red-ball return

The Indian T20I captain got out to Arsheep Singh after scoring 5 off 15 deliveries

Suryakumar Yadav’s return to red-ball cricket wasn’t a fruitful one as the 34-year-old got out for a score of just 5 on day two of the third and final round of the Duleep Trophy. SKY’s last red-ball appearance came in the final of last year’s Duleep Trophy (July 2023).

The Indian T20I captain was withdrawn from the squad before the first round of the tournament after he suffered a blow on his right thumb while fielding in the Buchi Babu invitational tournament in Coimbatore. He also missed the second round before finally being cleared for the third round.

Making his appearance for India B, SKY walked out to bat at No.5 on day two at the Rural Development Trust Stadium B in Anantapur. After India D hit 349 in the first innings, India B lost N Jagadeesan in the sixth over.

India B skipper Abhimanyu Easwaran was once again looking good, doing the majority of the scoring, but wasn’t finding much support from the other end. Suyash Prabhudessai and Musheer Khan got out cheaply and India B were reduced to 88/3.

In walked SKY, hit a boundary, but got out to Arsheep Singh after scoring 5 off 15 deliveries.

While Suryakumar is India’s T20I captain, he has failed to make space for himself in the red-ball scheme of things. He made his Test debut against Australia last year but could only manage a score of 8.
