India D captain Shreyas Iyer has been dismissed for a seven-ball duck against India A in the second round of the Duleep Trophy 2024 at the Rural Development Trust Stadium, Anantapur, on September 13 (Friday). Iyer came into bat after opening batter Atharva Taide was trapped leg-before for four by Khaleel Ahmed after the southpaw shouldered arms to a ball jagging in.
Iyer's seven-ball stay at the crease was far from comfortable, and when he finally looked to break the shackles by smashing the ball over mid-on, Aaqib Khan took a simple catch there to hand Khaleel his second wicket of the day.
Iyer did not get off to the best of starts, even in the first round. He was dismissed for nine in the first innings but bounced back well in the second essay, smashing 54 off just 44 deliveries, but in the end, India C edged past his side to win by four wickets.
Iyer has not been picked for the first Test against Bangladesh as well. He will hope to get back into the reckoning with a solid performance in the remainder of the tournament.
In the ongoing game, India A were bowled out for 290, thanks to Harshit Rana's four-wicket haul. His 4/51 also included wickets of the final two balls of the innings, one of which was to dismiss the opposition's top-scorer, Shams Mulani, who fell for 89.
