History was scripted at the Rural Development Trust Stadium in Anantapur as Rajasthan’s Manav Suthar registered the best figures ever by a spinner at the venue in first-class cricket. He took 7/49 against India ‘D’ in the first round of the Duleep Trophy 2024.
Suthar’s seven-wicket haul was also the first 7-fer taken by a spinner at the venue, and just the third instance of a bowler taking 7+ wickets in an innings in FC cricket in Anantapur.
The only other bowler to take 7+ wickets in an innings in Anantapur is former Andhra pacer Syed Shahabuddin, who achieved the feat twice: against Baroda and Hyderabad, both in 2005. Suthar’s 7-fer is hence the first seven-wicket haul at the venue in 19 years.
In fact, apart from Suthar and Shahabuddin, only two other bowlers have taken 6+ wickets in an innings at the venue: Doddapaneni Kalyankrishna and former India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pacer Sudeep Tyagi.
