Delhi Capitals have announced Rishabh Pant as their skipper for IPL 2024. The left-handed India wicketkeeper-batter has led Delhi in two seasons, in 2021 and 2022. Pant had to miss the 2023 edition, owing to his recovery process after a road accident in December 2022. David Warner led the team in his absence last year when the side finished ninth on the points table.
In this IPL, Pant will return to the playing field after 14 months, having joined the pre-season camp of his side in Visakhapatnam. Last week, BCCI’s fitness and medical teams declared the 26-year old fit to participate in the tournament as well as keep wickets.
The team’s co-owner Kiran Kumar Grandhi said on the occasion, “Rishabh has worked incredibly hard during one of the most challenging phases of his life. I have no doubt his teammates will take immense inspiration from that as they embark upon a new season. Captain Rishabh and the team has our best wishes.”
The DC Chairman and co-owner Parth Jindal spoke, “We are delighted to welcome Rishabh back as our Captain. Grit and fearlessness have always dictated his brand of cricket, and not surprisingly, even his road to recovery. I can’t wait to see him walk our team out once again as we look forward to a new season with renewed passion, vigour and enthusiasm.”
DC will begin their season in Mohali, facing Punjab Kings on the second day of the tournament - March 23.
