Guyana Amazon Warriors have secured South Africa allrounder Chloe Tryon and Australia allrounder Erin Burns for the 2024 edition of the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL). They have also retained Shabnam Ismail, the South African pacer, leaving them with one overseas spot to fill in the upcoming player draft later this month.
Among the local players, the Amazon Warriors have retained their captain from the last season, Stefanie Taylor alongside Karishma Ramharack, Shemaine Campbelle, Natasha McClean, and Shakera Selman.
The Amazon Warriors have seven slots left in the player draft.
Tryon is a hard-hitting middle-order batter and bowls left-arm orthodox spin. She has played 98 T20Is, scoring 1136 runs and picking 35 wickets. Burns is another middle order batter but more methodical and bowls off break. Both all-rounders have represented various franchises across the globe.
Tryon has played for Barbados Royals in the WCPL before while also representing Mumbai Indians in the Women’s Premier League, Sydney Sixers in the Women’s Big Bash League and a couple of teams in the Women’s Hundred. Burns has featured for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Hobart Hurricanes, Manchester Originals, Birmingham Phoenix and a few other sides.
WCPL is a three-team tournament including Guyana Amazon Warriors, Trinbago Knight Riders (winners in 2022) and Barbados Royals (winners in 2023). Amazon Warriors are the only side without a title in this competition. This year, the tournament will be held at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad from August 21 to August 29.
