The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) on September 15 (Sunday) confirmed that the regular white-ball skipper Jos Buttler has not yet fully recovered from his injury and will therefore miss the five-match ODI series against Australia.
Harry Brook, who has not led the English side previously in any format, will, for the first time, captain the Three Lions in ODIs in this series. Phil Salt was the captain of the T20I side in Buttler’s absence. Buttler is suffering from a right calf injury.
Young fast bowler Josh Hull has also been ruled out of the ODIs. He made his England debut in the third Test against Sri Lanka earlier this month. Hull is suffering from a quad injury.
Liam Livingstone, who was initially not part of the English squad for the ODI series, has been drafted in after a strong showing with both bat and ball in the first two T20Is. The first match of the series will be played on September 19 (Thursday) at the Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
England Men’s ODI Squad for Australia ODIs: Harry Brook (c), Jofra Archer, Jacob Bethell, Brydon Carse, Jordan Cox, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Liam Livingstone, Matthew Potts, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Jamie Smith, Olly Stone, Reece Topley, John Turner.
