Being in a different situation is the best preparation you can have: Rodrigues

The India batter now has moved down to No. 5 upon coach Amol Muzumdar’s insistence

Jemimah Rodrigues missed the Bangladesh series due to a back injury and returned to the Indian fold in the home series against South Africa. In the Women’s Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, she batted as a finisher, managing a total of 77 runs in four innings. She will aim to rediscover her mojo while plying her trade for Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) in the Women’s Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) 2024

With the Women's T20 World Cup in the UAE on the horizon, every single match is crucial for Rodrigues, who now has moved down to the crucial No.5 position upon Amol Muzumdar’s insistence. Rodrigues revealed that being in different situations and experiencing pressure during the WCPL is how she’s preparing herself for the mega event in October.

"These are the matches that I'm actually going to get before going and playing like proper team matches [T20 World Cup]," Rodrigues said at a media interaction organized by FanCode, reported ESPN Cricinfo.

"I'm really looking forward to a few things that I'm working on trying to implement here because when you do it in practice, it's different. When you do it in a match, it's way different, and franchise cricket has always excited me."

In the last four years, Rodrigues has become a regular feature in all prominent T20 leagues worldwide. Be it the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) or the Hundred, or even WCPL for that matter, Rodrigues has continued to expand her horizons. She insisted that going to different places helps her culturally and helps her acquire knowledge from many players.

"I love traveling; I love playing for different teams," Rodrigues said when asked about the prospect of playing in the Caribbean. "I love meeting new people and new cricketers and getting to know them, learning how their minds work, and learning how to play in different conditions. Because every time you go play cricket, you don't get the same kind of situation. Every time it changes.

"The more you're in that situation and in those pressure moments, I think that's the best preparation you can have, so for me, I look at it more as a preparation for the T20 World Cup, and at the same time, an added responsibility playing for TKR to do whatever I can to make sure my team wins at the end, so I'm just looking forward to playing these matches and I'm very excited for that,” the Mumbaikar added.
