Ahead of the upcoming U-19 season, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have made several amendments to the existing rules, relaxing participation clauses.
According to Cricbuzz’s reports, “The BCCI has said that those who fail the TW3 (Tanner Whitehouse 3) test can participate in the Under-19 competitions for three years, compared to the two years previously.
"The Players who have failed the TW3 test at the U-19 level but the birth is registered within two years of birth will be allowed two years of participation in Under-19 tournaments,” was the rule previously but now has been amended to three years of participation.
In addition, players who have passed the TW3 test but registered their births above two years old will also be allowed to participate for three years at the U-19 level. It remains the same if their registration is done within two years of birth.
"The players who have passed the TW3 test at the Under-16 level but the birth is registered above two years, then such players will be allowed two years of Under-19 participation,” read the rule previously.
According to the source, one rule that has remained unchanged is that the four-year period will begin from the date of participation, regardless of whether the player is picked or not for the next season.
"Once a player participates in any Under-19 match in the playing XI during any given season, the counting of 4 seasons will begin irrespective of if the player participates in the following season or not."
