Bangladesh confident of Taskin's recovery ahead of T20 World Cup

The Bangladesh pacer was kept out of the T20I series against the USA due to an injury

Taskin Ahmed, who suffered a displaced fracture in the rib region and missed the two T20 Internationals (T20I) against the US, will be fit for Bangladesh's first T20 World Cup match against Sri Lanka in Dallas on June 7, according to a report on Cricbuzz.

The pacer will also miss the third T20I against the USA on May 25 (Saturday).

"Taskin's improvement is very good and satisfying. He is going through a rehabilitation process and undergoing gym training. He is doing running sessions, and we will introduce bowling later," Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) chief physician Debashish Choudhury told the portal.

"We just got the reports [of the MRI scan] and talked to the doctor, and it seemed the fracture is almost healed and now we will slowly introduce him to short run-up bowling and later increase the intensity. He is not having any problem with running, and now we will be doing throwing sessions in the coming days before starting to bowl with short run-ups. We are hopeful he will be available from the opening game of the World Cup if he continues to progress in this manner."

Fast bowler Hasan Mahmud, who was named Taskin's replacement for the T20I series, has been included as a reserve player for the T20 World Cup in case the latter is unable to recover in time.
