Babar Azam, despite losing his spot in the Test side for the second and third game against the touring England side, has retained his top spot in the central contracts rolled out by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on October 27 (Sunday). Mohammad Rizwan is the only other player in Category A alongside Babar.
The 12-month central contracts have been awarded to 25 men’s cricketers for the 2024-25 international season and will come into effect with arrears from July 1 2024.
“The contracts have been offered under the structure that was agreed last year between the players and the PCB for three years,” PCB said in a statement.
Test captain Shan Masood has retained his place in category B, but only if he remains the Test skipper.
Five young players in Khurram Shahzad, Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Mohammad Ali, Muhammad Irfan Khan and Usman Khan, were offered central contracts for the first time.
Fakhar Zaman, who spoke against the PCB not only in the connection camp where the chairman of the board, Mohsin Naqvi, was also present but also through his tweet after Babar Azam was dropped from Tests, has not found his name in the central contracts.
Sajid Khan and Noman Ali were rewarded for their series-winning performance as they were offered category C central contracts.
