With a 75-run win over New Zealand in the third One-Day International (ODI) in Wellington, Australia have not only claimed the series but also won the ICC Women's Championship. Australia have, therefore, won all three editions of the competition and have qualified for the World Cup in India next year.
Australia have completed their 24-match campaign and have picked up 39 points, winning 17 and losing just three in the 2022-25 cycle India are the only team that could have caught up with Australia, but they can reach only a maximum of 37 points even if they win their remaining five matches - two against West Indies and three against Ireland.
With this loss, New Zealand's chances of securing automatic qualification have taken a jolt. They currently occupy the final automatic qualification spot, but they can be overtaken by either Bangladesh (19 points, 3 to play) or the West Indies (14 points, 5 to play).
If that were to happen, the White Ferns, who recently won the T20 World Cup, could still qualify for the global event in India via the World Cup Qualifiers, where six teams will fight for the remaining two spots.
Australia's win also guarantees Sri Lanka automatic qualification. The lowest they can finish is sixth, which is good enough. In addition to Australia and Sri Lanka, England, South Africa, and hosts India have qualified for the World Cup.
