Justin Langer replaces Andy Flower at LSG

The Zimbabwean was the head coach of the Lucknow Super Giants for their first two seasons

Amidst speculation that the Lucknow Super Giants are looking to hire someone as their head coach, their social media handle announced today that Andy Flower, their current Head Coach, will no longer be associated with the franchise.

Subsequently, LSG issued a press release announcing Justin Langer as their head coach for the upcoming season. Langer has previously coached the Australian cricket team. During his tenure, Australia captured the title by defeating England 4–0 in the Ashes series. Apart from that, Langer's tenure saw Australia lift the T20 World Cup for the first time, in 2021. His only experience in franchise cricket has been his stint with the Perth Scorchers, who won the Big Bash title three times under the guidance of Langer.

On joining LSG as head coach, Justin Langer said, “Lucknow Super Giants are on the journey of building a great story in the IPL. We all have a role to play in that journey and I am excited to be a part of the team moving forward.”

Flower coached the Super Giants to two playoffs finishes in their first two years, but they failed to go through to the finals even once. Having coached various teams across leagues, his record as a coach is one to envy. He is also consulting with the Australian Test team in the ongoing Ashes.

Barring Flower, no other changes have been made to the backroom staff yet. This includes Morne Morkel, Jonty Rhodes, and Vijay Dahiya as their bowling, fielding, and assistant coach, respectively.
