Renuka Singh Thakur’s powerplay carnage
Renuka Thakur looked in rhythm in the first six overs in the semifinal. Bangladeshi batters, who were looking to be aggressive from the first ball, got carried away and ended up losing three wickets against her in the powerplay. She finished her spell with a maiden and figures of 3/10.
Pooja gets a big record to her name
Pooja Vastrakar continued the trend of bowling short and getting wickets in the Asia Cup after dismissing Rabeya Khan on a short and fast ball that the batter failed to time and gave a catch to Shafali Verma at mid-on. With that wicket, Vastrakar became the Indian pacer with the most wickets in T20Is.
Bangladesh’s docile batting
After showing early intent, with Dilara Akter hitting Renuka for a six with the wind, the Bangladeshi batting fell flat and continued to lose wickets. Skipper Nigar Sultana was yet again the best batter, but even her 32(51) wasn’t enough to get her team over 100. Shorna Akter (19* off 18) was the only other batter to score in double digits.
Radha Yadav runs away with three scalps
Left-arm spinner Radha Yadav looked in rhythm in the semifinal. She picked up three wickets, including skipper Sultana's, and earned herself figures of 3/14 as the Bangladeshi innings was restricted to 80/8 in their full quota of overs.
Shafali and Smriti chase with ease
The Bangladeshi bowlers, like the batters earlier, failed to give the Indians any trouble during the chase. Both openers finished the 81-run chase in just 11 overs with 10 wickets in hand. With the win, they reached the final of the 2024 Women’s Asia Cup undefeated.
