5 key factors in India’s crushing win over Ireland

Missed the match? You didn’t miss a lot, don’t worry!

Arshdeep blows hot and cold

Arshdeep Singh’s first two overs defined perfection in every sense. Bowling at a good length, he got the ball to swing back in and away to remove Andy Balbirnie and Paul Stirling. His figures were 2/5 after two overs.

But come the next over, he blew cold, spraying the ball all over the place, conceding 12 runs in the over, courtesy of eight wides.

Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah, a killer duo

Before the match, Hardik Pandya conceded 30 runs in three overs against Bangladesh in the warm-up clash. But come the hour, Pandya picked up three wickets, impressing everyone with his game plan.

On the other hand, Jasprit Bumrah continued his stellar run, finishing with figures of 2/6 in three overs, bowling one heck of a bouncer to remove Harry Tector.

A disastrous campaign for New York

After a terrible opener between South Africa and Sri Lanka, New York was expected to play slightly better here between India and Ireland. However, that was far from the reality. In fact, this clash continued the trend from that encounter, with a ‘spongy bounce’.

The over from Arshdeep showed that exact thing, with two deliveries bouncing at a different height from the same length. Paul Stirling can attest to that.

Kohli fails in first T20WC game as opener

In the clash against Ireland, the tactic to open with Virat Kohli-Rohit Sharma did not pay off as Kohli departed for a five-ball one, registering his lowest-ever score in T20WC history. On a wicket that offered prodigious seam movement, the 35-year-old sliced one straight to the fielder in the third-man region.

One man, three records for Rohit Sharma

4000 T20I runs ✅

1000 T20 World Cup runs ✅

600 international sixes ✅

One man: Rohit Sharma. Chasing just a paltry score of 97, Rohit had to see through the new ball. Once he did, the Indian skipper broke numerous records, with his 600th international six bringing up his 4000th T20I run to register his 43rd win as a captain, only behind Eoin Morgan and Babar Azam.
