Fraser-McGurk tees off against Avesh
Jake Fraser-McGurk (50) has been in top form in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, but he really took off against Avesh Khan in his first over, smashing him for 28, to get to his fifty off just 19 deliveries. That over paved way for Delhi Capitals (DC) to put up a mammoth 78 on the board in the powerplay.
Ashwin pulls it back
After an explosive powerplay, Ravichandran Ashwin pulled things back for his side, removing Fraser-McGurk off his second delivery and then returned in the 10th over to get rid of Axar Patel (15). He kept it tight and eventually finished with 3/24.
Stubbs’ finishing touch
When Tristan Stubbs (41 off 20) walked in at six, it was at the expense of the well-set Abishek Porel (65), and soon after that, DC lost Rishabh Pant (15). Stubbs’ innings proved to be the difference between a par total and a match-winning one.
Khaleel breaks Samson’s rhythm
Sanju Samson (86) was in the zone before Khaleel Ahmed (2/47) bowled four consecutive wides in the 15th over, which broke the Rajasthan Royals (RR) skipper’s rhythm. The next three legal deliveries in the over resulted in just a single, and Mukesh Kumar eventually dismissed Samson in the next over.
The ‘Royal’ collapse
RR needed 63 runs off the final five overs with seven wickets in hand, but Samson’s wicket soon after proved to be the pivotal point for DC as they allowed RR to score just 42/5 at the death. Kuldeep Yadav (2/25) played a huge role in it, as he gave away just four runs and picked up two wickets in the 18th over to all but confirm DC's victory.
