Boult delivers in the powerplay
Trent Boult (1/16) bowled an excellent spell in the powerplay, conceding just six runs and also picked up the vital wicket of Faf du Plessis (17). He kept it tight, bowling stump-to-stump, largely on length or short-of-length area.
Ashwin’s brilliant spell
Ravichandran Ashwin (2/19) bowled a top-class spell, with nearly 79% of the deliveries hitting the wickets. He picked up the wickets of Cameron Green (27) and Glenn Maxwell (0) off consecutive deliveries to tilt the game in RR's favour.
Sanga fumes
Dinesh Karthik could have walked back to the hut off the first ball, but the on-field umpire’s decision was overturned upon review. Kumar Sangakkara made his anger clear and barged towards the third umpire as he thought that there was no inside edge, but it was the bat brushing the pads that caused the spike in the ultra-edge. However, Karthik had a quiet day, scoring just 11 off 13.
Green steps up with the ball again
Cameron Green (1/28) got the massive wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal (45) off his first over. Overall, he bowled largely at the batter’s waist, making it awkward for him to hit, making full use of his height. In fact, Green is the only RCB pacer this season with an economy of under nine (8.61).
Assault post time-out
The game was evenly poised until RR needed 58 off the final six overs when the final time-out of the match took place. However, Riyan Parag (36) and Shimron Hetmyer (26) added 39 in the next three overs to put RR in control. Despite a slight stutter in the end, the Royals romped home with one over to spare, chasing 173, sealing a place in the Qualifier 2.
