Follow UsHistory has been scripted at the Ruaraka Sports Club Ground in Nairobi as Zimbabwe, in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Sub Regional Qualifier B clash against Gambia, have posted the highest-ever total in T20 history (344/4). Prior to today (October 23), Nepal’s 314/3 against Mongolia in Hangzhou in Asian Games 2023 had been the one and only instance of a team crossing 300 in an official T20 in Men’s cricket.
But in a scarcely believable onslaught, Zimbabwe racked up 344/4 against Gambia. They shattered the record thanks to a historic knock from their skipper Sikandar Raza, who posted the fastest-ever hundred by a full-member batter in T20I history, his century coming off just 33 balls.
Not only that, Zimbabwe smashed a staggering 57 boundaries, the most by any team in a single T20I. Their 27 sixes is also the most by any team in a single T20I, surpassing the previous record of 26 set by Nepal against Mongolia.
While Zimbabwe scripted history, Gambia’s Musa Jorbateh registered an unwanted record. He conceded 93 off the four overs he bowled, making it the most expensive spell in both T20 and T20I history.
Four days ago, at the same venue, Zimbabwe had posted 286/5 against Seychelles, which was then the second-highest total by a full-member in T20Is.
