In his four matches in the County Championship, Yuzvendra Chahal grabbed 19 wickets at 21.10, which included a couple of five-wicket hauls. He also has the experience of playing for Kent last season. Following his good showing this season, the leg-spinner said that he wanted to show what he is capable of doing in such conditions and added that he hopes to be part of the Indian Test side that will tour England in 2025.
As of now, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel and Kuldeep Chahal are ahead in the pecking order when it comes to Tests, but Chahal has now thrown his ring into the hat.
"County cricket is tough cricket. It gave me an opportunity to showcase my skills against a very good standard of cricket. With India touring England next year, I wanted to show how good I am," Chahal told The Times of India.
Chahal also played one List A fixture for Northamptonshire - against Kent - claiming 5/14. Safe to say that his stint was a productive one, but the 34-year-old wants to continue helping the next generation of cricketers as well.
"Firstly, I am very grateful to Brindon [Bagirathan] sir who gave me an opportunity to play in County cricket, and then the Rajasthan Royal's coaches introduced me to Krish Patel, a highly-educated 18-year old cricketer who is thought to have a very bright future in the game. I want to see him play internationally and if I can help, I am always there," Chahal added.
Chahal has picked up 115 wickets at 32.29 at the first-class level since making his debut for Haryana in 2009. He will look to impress further in the upcoming edition of the Ranji Trophy, which begins on October 11.
