Yuzvendra Chahal fetched the biggest amount in the second marquee set of the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The leg-spinner will be playing for Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 2025 season at a whopping amount of INR 18 crore, almost thrice as his signing amount with Rajasthan Royals (RR) of INR 6.5 crore in the 2022 mega auction.
Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) started the bid for Chahal but opted out after 19 bids for the leg-spinner. Punjab came into the bidding at INR 6 crore and defeated GT, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to secure Chahal. The 34-year-old will be now playing for his fourth team having represented Mumbai Indians (MI), RCB and RR before.
Chahal was the highest wicket-taker in the 2022-24 IPL auction cycle with 66 wickets, averaging 22.8 at an economy of 8.4. This cycle also elevated him to the overall highest-wicket in the IPL, becoming the first bowler to pick 200 wickets in the competition's history during the 2024 season.
Chahal was Punjab’s third buy in this auction after they splashed 26.75 crore on Shreyas Iyer (their potential captain) and used the Right-to-Match (RTM) card for Arshdeep Singh at 18 crore. Thus, Punjab have exhausted 62.75 crore (57% purse) within the two marquee sets itself.
