The bowlers have stepped up to the plate when required with vital breakthroughs and have made the Women's Premier League (WPL) an even contest between bat and ball. Hence, we look at the top three contenders to win the Purple Cap in WPL 2025.
The No. 1 bowler in T20 Internationals (T20I), Sophie Ecclestone, is the leading wicket-taker in the WPL with 27 scalps at an economy rate of 6.6. The left-arm spinner was the joint-highest wicket-taker in the first season with 16 wickets but managed just 11 in the next edition.
However, there is no doubt that the UP Warriorz tweaker will be handy in the upcoming season, starting February 14.
New Zealand leg-spinner Amalia Kerr picked up the most wickets (15) in the Women's T20 World Cup to lead her side to the title in the UAE. Moreover, no player picked up more wickets (68) than Kerr in 2024.
Count on her to make the ball talk in WPL 2025, along with the bat, a department that fetched her 922 runs (SR 115) last year.
Another spinner on the list, Saika Ishaque, had a breakout year in 2023, where her 15 wickets helped Mumbai Indians to the title. That performance saw her play for India later that year. However, she could muster just nine more wickets in the next season.
However, with spinners ruling the roost in the tournament so far, we could see Ishaque have her best season yet in the WPL.
