Australia will continue to be without Sophie Molineux, with the spin bowling all-rounder ruled out of the upcoming Ashes, starting on January 12. The left-arm spinner suffered a knee injury during the three-match ODI series against India at home, where she walked off the pitch.
Molineux was coming on a high, leading Melbourne Renegades to a maiden Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) win. That knee injury was enough to rule her out of the subsequent series against New Zealand and now has also ruled her out of England.
"Sophie Molineux will undergo left knee surgery next month, following that we will provide further updates on an anticipated return date," team physiotherapist Kate Beerworth said.
On the other hand, Georgia Voll, who made her debut against India, has been included in the Ashes squad following a stellar start to her international career.
"Whilst Georgia Voll didn't play against New Zealand, she's made a brilliant start to her international career and will be a strong option with the bat if required in her debut Ashes series," Flegler said.
However, whether Alyssa Healy will keep wickets in the series is unsure.
"It was pleasing to see Alyssa Healy return to action against New Zealand and looked in good touch, along with a number of batters continuing their strong form on from the recent series against India," Cricket Australia's Head of Performance (Women's Cricket) and National Selector, Shawn Flegler said.
The three-match ODI and T20I series begins on January 12 with the ODIs. Later, the two sides will clash over three T20Is, starting on January 20.
