Winless at home in Tests: Pakistan’s unfortunate streak stretches to 10

Pakistan lost the second Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh on Tuesday (September 3) by six wickets in Rawalpindi. As a result of the 0-2 series loss, they also extended their streak of remaining winless at home to 10 Tests. 

The Men in Green became only the third team after Zimbabwe and Bangladesh to remain winless in 10 or more Tests at home. 

Zimbabwe’s 10-plus winless streak at home

Zimbabwe have remained winless for more than 10 Tests at home. The Chevrons have been grappled by the most recent bout of winlessness at home since 2014. They have remained winless in 14 matches till 2023 with the last coming in a two-match series against West Indies. 

Bangladesh’s record 26 Tests winless streak at home

However, the record for remaining winless at home for most matches is held by Bangladesh. Between 2005 and 2014, the Tigers could not win a single Test at home among the 26 that they played. 

Before 2005, the Bangladeshi team had remained winless for 15 Tests since their debut in the format in 2000 till 2004, when they won against Zimbabwe. They also broke their second winless streak against Zimbabwe only when they beat the touring side in 2014. 

Pakistan’s winless record at home

This is the first time Pakistan have remained winless at home for 10 Tests or more. Since 2022, Pakistan have not won a single game at home. They lost to Australia 1-0 in a three-match series and then to England 3-0. Their two-match series against New Zealand ended in a draw and they have now lost to Bangladesh 2-0. 

Their previous longest winless stretch at home was seven matches between 1959 and 1962.
