Australia batter Will Pucovski has been forced to retire at the age of 26. His career was marred with plenty of injuries, which were mostly blows to the head that would lead to concussion.
Pucovski suffered a blow to the head as recently as March this year when Riley Meredith hit him on the helmet. As a result, he was ruled out of the Australian summer and also had to pull out of his stint with Leicestershire. Not just concussions, Pucovski also fought mental illness and still continues to address that.
Cricket Victoria (CV) handed Pucovski a contract for 2024-25, but it was conditional on him being assessed by independent medical experts, who will work alongside CA and Cricket Australia (CA) medical experts. It is understood that the medical committee effectively ended his career.
Tipped to be the next big thing in Australian cricket, Pucovski played just one Test for his country against India in 2021. However, he has had a prolific first-class career, scoring 2350 at 45.19 since making his debut in 2017.
