Overnight rains meant that we had a delayed start to Day 1 of the second Test between India and Bangladesh in Kanpur, with the toss happening at 10.00 AM IST and the first ball being bowled at 10.30 AM IST.
The weather eventually cleared up and we looked good to get a full day’s play, however, the clear weather in the first session proved to be a false dawn as rain returned immediately after lunch and forced an early halt to the day. As it turned out, only 35 overs were bowled on Day 1.
For this very reason, to make up for lost time, play will start 30 minutes earlier on Day 2 (weather permitting). Meaning if all goes well, the first ball of the day will be bowled at 9.00 AM IST instead of the usually scheduled start time of 9.30 AM IST.
The first session will be an extended one, with it set to be a two and a half hour session.
Will it rain on Day 2?
Unfortunately, heavy rains are predicted for Day 2 as well. There is a strong likelihood that we will lose some more overs on Day 2 and not get a full day’s play in.
There’s an 80% chance of rain on Saturday in Kanpur according to Accuweather. Thunderstorms are expected.
Team India will be hoping for a clear day as losing another day might put their chances of a clean sweep in jeopardy. Remember, India have already seen one match get washed out in this World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, the second Test against West Indies in Port of Spain.
