England’s pacer Reece Topley was fined 15% of his match fees after the left-arm pacer was caught smashing a chair in anger following another bout of injury. The 30-year-old walked off after jarring his knee in the first T20I against West Indies.
While he did try to continue playing with that injury, he had to walk off just one delivery later, adding to his long list of injuries. According to ESPNCricinfo, Topley had a similar incident last year during the ODI World Cup in India when he swiped at a chair.
However, unlike the ODI World Cup, Topley did not escape a fine here. The left-arm pacer was found guilty of a Level 1 breach of the ICC's Code of Conduct, Article 2.2, which deals with "abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match."
Richie Richardson, who was the match referee for the clash, sanctioned the pacer. Topley admitted to the offence with one demerit point added to his record. Only if a player has four or more demerit points in a 24-month period will they be banned from an international fixture.
