When you're playing for India, there's no complacency: Rohit

India succumbed to a 110-run defeat in the third ODI against Sri Lanka and lost the series 2-0

India succumbed to their first One-Day International (ODI) series defeat against Sri Lanka since 1997, following their 110-run defeat in the final match of the series in Colombo on Wednesday (August 7).

After the first ODI ended in a tie, Sri Lanka bounced back very well in the second game, winning by 32 runs and in the third ODI have sealed the series as well. This series win comes after they suffered a whitewash in the T20 International (T20I).

In the ODI series, the Indian batters struggled against spin, losing 27 wickets, the most for any team in a three-match bilateral series. Has complacency crept in after India's T20 World Cup triumph? Rohit Sharma certainly does not think so.

"I don't think it is a concern," Rohit said at the post-match presentation when asked about India's spin troubles.

"But it is something we have to look at individually and as a gameplan. It is a joke, when you are playing for India there is never going to be complacency. When I am captain there is no chance of that. But you have to give credit to good cricket. Sri Lanka played better than us."

Rohit is not concerned about the series loss but emphasised bouncing back well.

"There are a lot of areas we need to look at rather than the positives from this series because we need to be better prepared when we come across such conditions next time. These things happen, series loss is not the end of the world, you will lose an odd series here and there but it is about how you come back after the loss," the India captain said.

It has been a tough 10 days or so for new skipper Charith Asalanka, but a series win over a formidable team like India is something he is proud of.

"I am a happy captain right now. The team did all things right throughout the series. We all knew they are a strong batting line up and we wanted to back our strength, spin was our strength and we backed it. They are in a good mood right now and our coach [Sanath Jayasuriya] is very active. The boys really enjoyed the team environment," Asalanka said.

It was opening batter Avishka Fernando who set it up for Sri Lanka with a superb fifty. He fell four runs short of his fourth ODI ton. While he says he was disappointed not to get to the milestone, he is pleased to get over the line.

"Very happy with the innings. The batters got together and did a good job. It was a challenging wicket and a bit disappointed not to get a hundred but happy with the win," Fernando said.
