Follow UsOn June 7 (Friday) in Dallas, Sri Lanka slipped to their second defeat of the 2024 T20 World Cup, and skipper Wanindu Hasaranga put the blame on the batters in the aftermath of the loss, claiming that Sri Lanka have been let down by the batters in both the matches they’ve played.
Batting first, Sri Lanka were in a very good position at 100/3 after 14 overs, but suffered a horror collapse to finish on 124/9. They stretched the game to the wire thanks to a stellar showing with the ball, but, in the end, Bangladesh got home with an over to spare.
Hasaranga was unable to hide his frustration in the wake of the defeat.
"Our batters batted really well in the first 8-10 overs. After that in the middle overs I think we batted badly,” Hasaranga said after the game.
The Lankan skipper insisted that the bowling attack of Sri Lanka has enough quality to defend 150-160, but the bowlers are being let down by the batters. Against South Africa, Sri Lanka were able to manage only 77.
“We all know our bowling attack is our strength. Specially if batters put up 150-160, our bowling attack can win games. Last two games the batters didn't do the job,” Hasaranga said.
In contrast to Hasaranga, Bangladesh’s Najmul Shanto was a very proud skipper.
"Everybody' body language was great, we gave our 120%. Last 10-15 days we have been making plans and all the fielders are doing their job,” Shanto said.
But the Bangladesh captain asserted that the Tigers should have won the contest way more comfortably than they actually did.
“I think they bowled really well, but on a wicket like this we should have won this easily,” Shanto said.
