West Indies were clinical in their performance against Uganda as they brushed aside the African nation for just 39, thereby winning by a massive 134 runs in the Group C clash in Guyana. This victory has also given the co-hosts' NRR a massive boost, which could come in handy when it comes to determining who goes through to the Super Eights.
West Indies skipper Rovman Powell believes that his side has shown massive improvement in this game compared to their tournament opener against Papua New Guinea (PNG).
"We talk about improving. We were a little flat in the first game. We had some rust in the first game. We were 60 percent in the first game. Now, we are operating at 70-80 percent," Powell said at the post-match presentation.
He also lauded Akeal Hosein for a superb spell, where he finished with 5/11 - the best figures for a West Indies bowler at the T20 World Cup. "Credit to Akeal, no wonder why he is the number 3 ranked bowler in this format. He has done the same against top sides as well. He bowled wicket to wicket and did his job," he said.
Hosein was glad that the efforts he put in the nets finally paid off. "I think I needed this. In the nets and in the previous series, I felt like the ball was coming out of my hand good. I think I was doing everything right in the nets but I just wasn't getting the rewards. Just have to stay calm and it'll be my turn soon," Hosein said.
While Uganda were outplayed in all departments today, their skipper Brian Masaba feels there were soem positives, especially with the ball.
"We must take lessons. We need to understand what can we do better as a batting unit. There were some positives in the bowling department. The way we bowled at the death. Hopefully, we can build on it. It is a huge challenge. If we have to get better, we need to play more games against such opponents. Good lessons to carry back home," Masaba said.
Uganda will play their final game of the tournament against New Zealand on June 14 (Friday) in Trinidad. West Indies, on the other hand, also play New Zealand next, on June 12 (Wednesday), also in Trinidad.
