Pakistan Women captain Fatima Sana said her team was 10-15 runs short after losing to India by six wickets in Match 7 of the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup on October 6 (Sunday).
The Women in Green could only manage 105/8 in their 20 overs, which India chased down in 18.5 overs. “We were short 10 to 15 runs in the bat because the pitches were slow. If we had gone to a maximum of 130, 140, I think we would have scored a good score.” said Sana.
“It was a low-bounce pitch. And we didn't utilise the powerplay as we should have so I think that is where our performance was affected.”
Nida Dar scored 28 off 34 but the other Pakistan batters failed to cross the 20-run mark. Sana slammed 13 off 8 but that didn’t make much difference to the scoreboard.
“In such big events, you expect that such senior players perform well - of course. But, we should keep giving chances to the batters so that they can play their best cricket. Because we know that people wait for such big events,” added Sana.
Sana was Pakistan’s best bowler, claiming 2/23 in her four overs. The right-arm seamer dismissed Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh off consecutive deliveries but didn’t have enough runs on the board.
“The wicket was slow. That's why the batters were not reacting like we wanted. We didn't see any power hitting from the Indian batters because the wicket was slow.”
