Watch: Yuzvendra Chahal picks his first fifer in first-class cricket in 8 years

His other two five-wicket hauls came while playing for Haryana in October 2016

Playing for Northamptonshire in the County Championship Division Two, Yuzvendra Chahal picked up his third first-class five-wicket haul on September 10 (Tuesday). The Indian leg-spinner registered figures of 5/45 against Derbyshire in 16.3 overs at Wantage Road.

His other two five-wicket hauls came while playing for Haryana in October 2016. Since then, however, Chahal hasn't picked up a single five-wicket haul.

The leg-spinner, who managed only one wicket in his first two County games in August, got rid of Wayne Madsen, Aneurin Donald, Zak Chappell, Alex Thomson and Jack Morley. The way Chahal outfoxed Madsen and Morley was a delight to watch.

Thanks to him, Northamptonshire managed to dismiss Derbyshire for 165 and took a first-innings lead of 54. Derbyshire lost their last six wickets for just 15 runs. Northamptonshire are 178/5 in the second essay and have extended the lead to 232.

Playing for the same team, Prithvi Shaw could only manage scores of 4 and 2 across two innings.

Chahal, who has played 72 ODIs and 80 T20Is, is no more part of the Indian set-up. The 34-year-old last played for India in August 2023.
