Guyana Amazon Warriors (GAW) got off the mark in the Women's Caribbean Premier League (WCPL) 2024 with a comprehensive victory over Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) on August 23 (Friday) in Trinidad.
Chasing a modest 131, Guyana captain Lauren Winfield-Hall (46*) and Erin Burns (78*) put on a record 111-run stand for the third wicket to see their side home. Chloe Tryon was the pick of the bowlers for them, picking up 4/21 that restricted Trinbago to 130/6.
Harshitha Samarawickrama (33) was the only batter to get over 30 for TKR. While there were some useful contributions from Jess Jonassen (28) and Jemimah Rodrigues (26), in the end, nobody really kicked on to give the side a competitive total.
With GAW at 15/2, there was a glimmer of hope for TKR, but the partnership between Burns and Winfield-Hall dashed all that. Burns got to her fifty off just 32 deliveries after being dropped on 49, and, from there, she just cut loose as Guyana reached the target with eight wickets and 16 balls to spare.
The two teams will clash once again in the next match of the competition on August 26 (Monday) in Trinidad.
