A stunning cameo down the order from Nyeem Young piled more misery on the St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, who slipped to their fourth defeat in five games in the 2024 Caribbean Premier League (CPL).
Chasing 154, Barbados Royals needed 28 off the last three overs with just four wickets in hand. But Young (17* off 7 balls) played a blistering cameo to help make it two wins in two for the Royals. With 3 needed off 2 balls, the 23-year-old hammered pacer Ryan John for a six to seal it for his side.
For the Royals, though, the victory was actually set up by the Sri Lankan duo of Maheesh Theekshana and Dunith Wellalage. The two spinners opened the bowling in the first innings and, between them, registered figures of 5/51. Theekshana (4-2-16-2) was the pick of the bowlers.
It was Wanindu Hasaranga (40 off 27) who top-scored with the bat for the Patriots. St Kitts and Nevis Patriots now find themselves at the bottom of the CPL 2024 table.
